Restoring Power to the People

A Call to Action: The Fight Against Fascism Begins Now

The preamble of the United States Constitution begins with these iconic words:

"We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity..."

The phrase "in order to form a more perfect union" signifies progress. It acknowledges that 1776 was the starting point for this nation, not the pinnacle. The Founding Fathers—and the mothers who formed the backbone of the fledgling country—knew that the United States would evolve in ways they couldn’t imagine. They laid a foundation for government with three branches and a robust system of checks and balances to ensure all people would be represented and heard.

Yet today, that liberty is under attack. Our great nation is sliding into fascism, and it is not solely the fault of Republicans.

From Civil Rights to Corporate Dominance

The erosion of democracy started long ago. After the Civil Rights Movement, new barriers in housing and education worked to gatekeep opportunities and keep people of color excluded. Public pools were drained and closed rather than integrated. Access to elite education further widened those divides.

At the time, many Americans accepted this injustice as blue-collar jobs provided stable incomes, and biases against people of color were pervasive. But this acceptance came at a cost. The degradation of equity and opportunity eroded the middle class.

By 2010, the Supreme Court’s landmark Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision dealt another blow. It treated corporations as entities with free speech rights, opening the floodgates for unlimited political spending. While this argument might hold water for unions, most corporations don’t represent their employees. Many don’t even pay living wages, forcing workers to rely on government assistance. Meanwhile, corporations lobby for tax breaks, putting the financial burden back on the American people, all while CEOs and shareholders grow wealthier.

This decision marked the beginning of the end of true representational democracy. Corporate cash now fuels elections, weakening the value of an American’s individual vote. Candidates across political affiliations (with rare exceptions like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) accept corporate donations. This money comes with strings attached, sacrificing the interests of the public.

The Cost of a Corporate Democracy

For the 2024 election cycle, political spending topped $16 billion, a staggering 79% increase from 2020.

Imagine what could have been done with that money:

  • Paid fair wages for workers

  • Addressed the homelessness crisis

  • Revitalized education systems across the country

Instead, it was poured into political ads and policies that few Americans even support.

This unchecked spending reflects a deeper crisis within our democracy. It’s no longer about representing the will of the people. It’s about perpetuating a system where politicians profit while in office, through stock trades, donations, and lavish "work-related" perks funded by special interests.

This must end.

How Do We Fight Back?

The solution is both simple and revolutionary: We must challenge establishment politicians at every level.

 #PrimaryThemAll.

The current political structure is riddled with complacency and corruption. Even well-meaning lawmakers become conditioned to the status quo, deaf to the cries of an increasingly disillusioned nation.

Here's How We Fight Back!

1. Enforce Term Limits
No one should spend more than 20 years in federal government. Long careers in politics often lead to stagnation and corruption.

2. Overturn Citizens United
Codify laws to ensure corporations do not have the same rights as citizens, especially when they exploit workers and undermine democracy.

3. Age Limits for Leadership Roles

A President should not serve beyond the age of 65. Leadership requires fresh perspectives and a deep connection to the challenges and opportunities of today’s America and the future we’re building. While experience is valuable, it’s equally important to ensure leaders are at their peak capacity to make sound, forward-thinking decisions for the nation.

4. Ban Stock Trading in Office
Politicians must be banned from participating in stock trading to prevent conflicts of interest and insider dealings.

5. Demand Equality and Humanity for All
At their best, Republicans were the party of feeding the poor and healing the sick, while Democrats championed the middle class and innovation. It is time to rekindle these values and prioritize progress and human dignity above all else.

What You Can Do Right Now

We are in the fight of our lives, and every voice must rise to defend democracy. If current politicians won’t sacrifice their own comfort to protect the people, then they must go. It’s that simple.

Run for Local Office
Consider school boards, city councils, or planning commissions to make tangible changes in your community.

Join Grassroots Movements
Mobilize efforts to push for fair policies and hold elected officials accountable.

Demand Policy Change
Advocate for term limits, a ban on stock trading by politicians, and campaign finance reform to put power back into the hands of voters.
